Occasion: Diwali Eve
Gangotri Temple closes every year on Diwali eve. For 2026, the temple is expected to close on 14 November 2026. After closing, the Utsav Murti (processional idol) of Goddess Ganga is taken to Mukhba village in Uttarkashi district, where she is worshipped during the winter months. Mukhba is also known as "winter Gangotri."
